Applications turn "DM me if you want to be a mod" into a proper process. You write the
questions once, members run /apply, and Buddy interviews them one question at a time in DMs.
Finished applications land in a review channel with Approve and Deny buttons, and
approved members get their new roles automatically.
Before you start#
Applicants must allow DMs from server members. Buddy can't run an application if it can't DM them, and tells them how to fix it.
Set it up#
It's under Tickets & applications in the sidebar.
Type a title under New application (for example "Moderator application") and click Create.
Click the edit button next to it in Your applications.
In Application details, set the Title, Command, Description and the Review channel. In Messages in DMs, write a Start message and an End message. Click Save application.
In Questions, type each one under New question and click Add. Use the arrows to reorder them.
In Reviewer roles, pick a role under App Role and click Add.
In Roles given when approved, add the roles approved applicants should get.
Members run /apply. Or post a panel: run /setup in your applications channel and choose Create Application Embed with Dropdown.

Commands#
/apply EveryoneBot will dm user the requested application.
Anyone can use /apply unless you limit it with command roles.
How applying works#
- The member runs
/apply(or uses your panel) and picks an application from the menu. - Buddy DMs them your Start message with Start and Cancel buttons, and gives them a View DM link.
- After Start, Buddy asks each question and waits for the reply. They have 5 minutes per question. Images they send are saved as links.
- After the last answer, Buddy sends your End message, and the application appears in your review channel within about a minute.
Members can stop at any time by clicking Cancel or typing #cancel. Cancelled and timed-out
applications are never sent to your staff. Each member can only have one application in
progress at a time.
Reviewing applications#
Each application is posted in your Review channel with the member's details (when they joined, how long the application took), every question and answer, and your reviewer roles pinged. Buddy also adds ✅ and ⛔ reactions for quick voting and opens a thread for discussion.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Approve | Gives the Roles given when approved, DMs the member "Application Accepted!" and marks it approved. |
| Deny | DMs the member "Application Denied!" and marks it denied. |
| Approve with Reason / Deny with Reason | Same, but asks for a reason that's included in the DM. |
| Create Ticket with Applicant | Opens a private ticket with the applicant and your reviewer roles, to ask follow-up questions. |
Every submitted application is also kept on the Submitted applications page. Open it with the See submitted applications link at the top of the Applications page. It lists the latest 100 with each question and answer and whether the application is waiting for review, approved or denied.
Long applications are split up so no answer is lost. If the answers don't fit in one message, the rest are posted in the application's thread (or as extra messages), and the footer tells you where. Each answer shows up to about 1000 characters in Discord.
Examples#
Three questions for a moderator application:
How old are you, and what time zone are you in?
Why do you want to moderate this server?
A member posts a scam link in #general. What do you do?What the applicant sees for each question in their DMs:
What your reviewers see in the review channel:
@Mod Team
Approve Deny Approve with Reason Deny with Reason Create Ticket with Applicant
"What would you do if…" questions tell you far more than "Are you active?". Keep it to 5–10 questions so good applicants don't give up halfway.
Premium#
The free plan includes up to 5 applications per server. Premium plans can raise that limit. The Applications page shows how many you've used. See plan limits.
Troubleshooting#
Applications never show up in the review channel#
- Pick a Review channel for that application and click Save application. Applications sent in before you picked one are posted once you do.
- Buddy needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links there. If it can't post, it notes a "Could not post application" entry in the dashboard Error Log and tries again.
- The applicant must still be in the server. Buddy skips applications from members who left.
"I couldn't send you a DM to start this application."#
The member has DMs from server members turned off. In Discord they can open the server menu,
choose Privacy Settings and allow direct messages, then run /apply again.
"This server does not currently have any applications setup."#
Create an application on the Applications page first.
"You do not have role or permission required to use that button."#
Only Reviewer roles and server administrators can approve, deny or open application tickets. Add the role under Reviewer roles.
"Error assigning roles to user."#
Buddy needs Manage Roles, and its role must be above every role in Roles given when approved.
The application timed out#
Members have 5 minutes for each question. They can run /apply again to start over.
