The dashboard is where you configure Buddy for a server. Every page follows the same layout, so once you know where things are you can find any setting in seconds. This tour covers the layout, how saving works, and what's on the dashboard home page.

Before you start#

You need to be logged in and have a server selected. If you haven't done that yet, follow First-time setup. The dashboard only opens for servers where you have Administrator, and it re-checks that every time you save.

Open your dashboard

Start from Discord

Run /setup in your server for a private control panel that shows what's set up in each area. Its Open buttons land on the matching dashboard page for that server. See Using Buddy in Discord.

The layout#

From left to right on a computer:

AreaWhat's in it
Server railIcons for every server where you're an Administrator. Servers with Buddy come first; after a divider, faded icons are servers without Buddy (hover shows "Add Buddy to name", click to invite it). The highlighted icon is the server you're managing.
Settings sidebarThe active server's card, the Find a setting... search box and every settings page, grouped by area.
Main areaThe page you opened: breadcrumb, title, a one-line description and the settings themselves.

The server card#

At the top of the sidebar you'll see the active server's icon, name and member count, plus a Premium badge if the server has Premium. Under it:

  • Switch opens My Discords so you can pick another server.
  • Listing opens your public server page (only shown once the server is listed in the directory).
  • A Premium button that depends on your account:
    • Server has Premium and your Premium slot powers it: Remove Premium (asks "Remove Premium from this server?" first).
    • Server has Premium from another member's slot: a note saying so (only the slot owner can remove it).
    • You have Premium but this server doesn't: Make Server Premium. It uses a free slot, or if every slot is in use, lets you pick a server to move Premium from. You can still do this with /setup in Discord instead.
    • No Premium: Upgrade to Premium.

Settings groups#

The sidebar groups pages the same way as the docs:

GroupPages

Welcome & onboardingWelcome messages, Welcome image, Daily activity report

At the bottom of the sidebar, Help & setup guides opens these docs.

Find a setting#

Type in Find a setting... to filter the sidebar. It matches page names, their descriptions and group names, so roles, youtube or ban all work. Press Enter to open the first match. If nothing matches you'll see "No settings match."

Each page shows a breadcrumb (server name → page), the page title, and a short description of what the page does. How this works on the right opens the matching guide in these docs.

Premium labels#

Pages that need Premium (Timed messages and Custom bot) show a Premium label in the sidebar while the server is on the free plan, and next to the page title. Analytics works on free servers (last 7 days), so it shows More on Premium instead. Inside other pages, individual Premium-only cards carry the same label. Pages with a limit, like auto responses or banners, show a usage bar such as "3 / 5 used", and on free servers a line telling you how many you could have with Premium.

Saving changes#

Change the settings on the page

Most pages are one or more cards of settings. Click the small ? button next to a field name for extra help.

Click the save button at the bottom

Every form ends in a save bar with a button named after the page, like Save bot settings or Save starboard settings. While it saves, the button reads "Please wait...".

Look for the confirmation

A message pops up in the bottom-right corner: Success! with what was saved, or Error! with what went wrong. It disappears after a few seconds. A few pages refresh themselves shortly after a successful save.

Deleting something (a timed message, an embed, a button role…) always asks first with an Are you sure? box. Click Confirm to go ahead.

Nothing happened when I clicked save

If no Success or Error message appears at all, your page has probably been open too long and its security token expired. Copy anything you typed, reload the page and save again.

On your phone#

On small screens the sidebar is hidden. A bar at the top shows the server name and current page; tap it to open the Server settings panel with the server rail, server card, search box and every page. Tapping a page closes the panel.

Messages at the top of the page#

Two messages can appear above any page:

MessageWhen it showsWhat to do
Finish connecting this server first. The website hasn't received this server's channels or roles.Run /setup in Discord and click Sync channels & roles, then refresh. Don't save until it's gone. See First-time setup.

The dashboard home#

Dashboard (the first page under Overview) is a quick health check for your server.

Bot errors#

This card is the first place to look when something doesn't post or a role isn't given. Each row shows the Channel, the Feature (for example "Welcome Message" or "Reaction Roles"), the Error (usually "Missing Permissions: …"), Details, and When it happened. Click the ? button next to the details for a suggested fix. Click the channel name to jump to it in Discord.

When the list says "No bot errors", Buddy hasn't run into anything it couldn't do.

Bot settings#

Bot → Bot settings controls how Buddy looks on this server. These apply to every feature.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Bot nicknameThe name Buddy shows in your member list and messages, up to 32 characters. Buddy needs the Change Nickname permission.—
Embed colorThe colour stripe on the left of Buddy's embed messages.—

Click Save bot settings to apply. Want a different avatar and name everywhere? That's the Custom bot feature (Premium).

Troubleshooting#

"You no longer have Administrator permission on this Discord server."#

Someone removed your Administrator permission (or you left the server). Get it back, then choose the server again on My Discords.

"We could not verify your Discord server permissions right now."#

Discord didn't answer when the website checked your permissions. Wait a moment and try again.

A channel or role is missing from a dropdown#

The website's copy of your channels and roles is out of date. Run /setup and click Sync channels & roles (or use /setup feature: Update Channels and Roles for Website), wait a minute and reload the page.

The Premium label is still showing after I turned Premium on#

The dashboard caches server details for about a minute. Reload the page after a minute or two.
