Notifications & owner alerts
Choose which DMs Buddy sends you, and get alerts about setup problems, listing reviews and ban appeals for the servers you manage.
On this page
Buddy can send you Discord DMs about your account and about the servers you run. You choose which ones on the website under Account → Notifications (open the account menu in the top right and choose Notifications).
Before you start#
- Log in to the website with Discord.
- Buddy can only DM you if your Discord privacy settings allow DMs from members of a server you share with Buddy. If your DMs are closed, alerts are skipped.
- Owner alerts are for servers where you're an Administrator and Buddy has been added.
Set it up#
On the website, open the account menu and choose Notifications.
Turn Premium updates on or off, and turn on the owner alerts you want: Setup problems, Listing activity and Ban appeals.
Under Which servers?, tick the servers you want alerts for (up to 50).
Click Save notification settings.
Settings explained#
Messages from Buddy#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Premium updates | A DM when your Premium starts or ends. | On |
Messages a server sends you itself, like application results, warnings or ticket updates, are set up by that server and aren't controlled here.
Alerts for servers you manage#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Setup problems | A summary of new problems Buddy ran into in the server, like a missing permission or a deleted channel. It's the same list as the Error Log on the dashboard. At most one DM a day per server, and only when something new happened. | Off |
| Listing activity | A DM when someone leaves a review or comment on the server's page in the server directory. Your own reviews and comments don't count. | Off |
| Ban appeals | A DM when a new ban appeal comes in. | Off |
| Which servers? | The servers these alerts are for. Only servers where you're an Administrator and Buddy is added are listed. | None |
- Alerts start from the moment you turn them on. You won't get a backlog of older errors, reviews or appeals.
- Buddy checks every few minutes, so a listing or appeal DM can take up to about 5 minutes.
- Each DM has a button to open the right page: the dashboard Error Log, your listing, or the Ban appeals page.
Troubleshooting#
I'm not getting any alerts#
- Check you ticked at least one server under Which servers? and saved.
- Check your Discord DMs are open (User Settings → Privacy & Safety, or the server's Privacy Settings → Direct Messages).
- If you're no longer an Administrator (or Manage Server) in a server, or you left it, Buddy stops sending alerts for it and removes it from your list.
A server is missing from the list#
The list only shows servers where you're an Administrator and Buddy is in the server. Add Buddy to the server first, then reload the page. If the page says Discord couldn't be reached, try again in a few minutes.
