Announcements

Auto-publish posts in your announcement channels, schedule announcements for later, and let staff repost any message to your announcement channel.

Buddy has three announcement tools. Auto-publish publishes every new post in your announcement channels to the servers that follow them, so nobody has to click Publish. Scheduled announcements let you write a post now and have Buddy send it later. And Post to Announcement lets staff right-click any message and repost it to your announcement channel in one click.

Before you start#

Permissions needed
  • Auto-publish: Buddy needs View Channel, Send Messages and Manage Messages in each announcement channel.
  • Scheduled announcements: Buddy needs View Channel and Send Messages in the destination channel.
  • Post to Announcement: Buddy needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in your announcement channel.
  • Auto-publish only works in Discord announcement channels (the 📢 kind). To get one, your server must be a Community server; then create a channel and pick Announcement as its type.
  • If a channel or role is missing from the dashboard lists, run /setup in Discord, choose Update Channels and Roles for Website, then refresh the page.

Set it up#

Auto-publish and reposting#

Open Announcements in your dashboard

It's under Automation & alerts in the sidebar.

Pick your announcement channel

In Repost to announcements, choose the Announcement channel where reposted messages should go.

Choose who can repost

In Staff roles, pick the roles allowed to use Post to Announcement. Members with Manage Server can always use it.

Choose channels to auto-publish

In Auto-publish, pick one or more Auto-publish channels. Only announcement channels are listed.

Save

Click Save settings.

Open announcement settings

Schedule an announcement#

Fill in the form

In Schedule an announcement, choose the Destination channel, set the Post time, and pick the Timezone that time is in.

Write the message

Type it in Message (up to 1800 characters). Discord markdown works.

Schedule it

Click Schedule announcement. The post time must be at least 5 minutes from now. It then appears under Upcoming.

The Upcoming list shows every scheduled post with its ID, channel, time (in UTC) and who created it. Click Cancel to stop one from posting. Recent activity shows the last few scheduled posts and what happened to them: scheduled, posted, failed or canceled.

The Timezone list includes UTC, America/New_York, America/Chicago, America/Denver, America/Los_Angeles, Europe/London, Europe/Paris, Asia/Singapore, Asia/Tokyo and Australia/Sydney. If yours isn't listed, convert your time to UTC and pick UTC.

Scheduled pings

Mentions in a scheduled announcement (@everyone, @here, roles) only ping if the person who scheduled it has the Mention Everyone permission. Otherwise, only member mentions and roles that are set to be mentionable will ping.

Post to Announcement#

Staff can repost any message without copying and pasting:

Right-click the message

On mobile, long-press it. Choose Apps > Post to Announcement.

Choose the format

Buddy asks how to post it. Click Embed with jump link or Copy message as-is. Only the person who started can pick.

Done

Buddy posts it in your Announcement channel and replies with a View Channel button and a link to the new post.

FormatWhat it posts
Embed with jump linkAn embed with the original author, the message text (up to 4000 characters), a Source field with a Jump to message link and the channel name, the first image from the message, and a "Shared by" footer. Mentions never ping.
Copy message as-isThe message text (up to 2000 characters) and up to 10 of its attachments, as a normal message. Mentions only ping if you could ping them yourself.

If text had to be shortened or attachments were left out, Buddy tells you in its reply.

Repost and publish in one go

If your Announcement channel is also one of your Auto-publish channels, reposted messages are published to following servers automatically too.

Commands#

/autopublish Manage Server

Pick the announcement channels Buddy publishes automatically.

Right-click a message → Apps → Post to Announcement Everyone

Right-click a message → Apps → Post to Announcement

Right-click a message → Apps → Schedule Announcement Manage Server

Right-click a message → Apps → Schedule Announcement

/scheduleannouncement [announcement] Manage Server

Open the scheduled announcements panel: schedule, view or cancel posts.

  • announcement number, optional — Jump straight to this scheduled announcement number.
  • /autopublish needs Manage Server. It opens a panel that only you can see, with one picker, Auto-publish these channels (announcement channels only, up to 25). Each pick saves straight away and replaces the whole list. Buddy checks it has View Channel, Send Messages and Manage Messages in any channel you add, and the panel warns you about listed channels where it's missing them. Channels that were deleted or are no longer announcement channels drop off the next time you save.
  • /scheduleannouncement and Schedule Announcement work for members with Manage Server or one of your Staff roles. Discord shows them only to members with Manage Server by default; to let a staff role see them, allow it under Server Settings > Integrations > Discord Buddy.
  • Post to Announcement shows for everyone, but only staff roles and members with Manage Server can use it.

Scheduling from Discord#

  • /scheduleannouncement opens a panel that only you can see. It lists your pending announcements, and Schedule announcement opens a form with a Post in channel picker, Post at and the Message (up to 2000 characters).
  • Times: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM is read as UTC. You can also add a timezone (2026-12-31 18:00 UTC, 2026-12-31T18:00-0500) or paste a Discord timestamp like <t:1798740000:F>. The time must be at least 5 minutes from now.
  • Schedule Announcement (right-click a message, Apps > Schedule Announcement) copies that message, including its embeds and attachments, and asks for a Destination channel ID or mention (#channel) and the time. The time works the same way as in /scheduleannouncement.
  • Once a server has 25 pending scheduled announcements, the Discord commands won't accept more until some post or are canceled.
  • Pick an announcement from the menu in /scheduleannouncement to see its status, channel, time, who scheduled it, its embeds and attachments, and the message. Cancel announcement stops it from posting (Buddy asks you to confirm). /scheduleannouncement announcement:<number> opens one directly.

Troubleshooting#

Posts in my announcement channel aren't being published#

  • Make sure the channel is a real announcement channel and is selected in Auto-publish channels, then click Save settings.
  • Buddy needs View Channel, Send Messages and Manage Messages there.
  • If publishing fails, Buddy sends a direct message about it to whoever last set it up with /autopublish (or the server owner), at most once every 30 minutes per channel.
  • Discord limits how many messages a channel can publish per hour. If you post a lot, some posts may not be published.

"No announcement channel is configured yet"#

Choose an Announcement channel in Repost to announcements and click Save settings.

"You need the Manage Server permission or one of the configured staff roles"#

Add one of your roles to Staff roles and save, or ask an admin to.

My scheduled announcement says failed#

Open Recent activity. Common reasons: Buddy lost View Channel or Send Messages in the destination channel, or the channel was deleted. Schedule it again after fixing the problem.

"Please choose a time at least 5 minutes in the future"#

The post time must be at least 5 minutes from now in the Timezone you picked. Check that the timezone matches the time you typed.
